Hi Deepak There are a lot of variables in a scene like this.
If you have a good relationship with your manager, the first thing is to take them into confidence and send them an official email stating your position. Send the same mail to HR also. Always remember to put things down on paper (email is the best way).
One important thing - Always use a assertive tone - while speaking and while writing.

Hi Umesh,
Thanks for your reply, I had sent an email to my ops manager..he directed it to HR to look ito it, however no one from HR replied on that mail and then after 3 weeks my ops manager discussed the issue with us stating this cannot be amended and tried to convince us that position name does not really matters you should see ehat job role you are doing...blah blah blah...am really pissed off Umesh..I have two options now either to accept what is forced on me or to escalate it further....

Hi Deepak

Such times call for patience and clarity of mind.

In fact, you have 3 options - Accept, escalate or change organisation. What should be your choice will only be determined by your circumstances and what will make you happy.

If I were in your position (it is likely that my circumstances and yours are different), then I would escalate the matter to the next level in HR (if my first mail was to the HR executive, then the next would be his boss and so forth). If I did not get a satisfactory explanation or resolution, I would escalate it right upto the HR Head and the Ops head.

The key is to seek an explanation as to why were you not given the post of Credit Controller. Check the reasons.

Look at this example - In the Indian cricket team, Dravid wants to become a 1st line Fast pace bowler, and come in to bat at No. 8.

I'm sure you must be asking yourself - Has Umesh gone out of his mind? Read on..

At times it is likely that in the IJP, it is found that the candidate may not have all the qualities required for a particular designation, and yet the organisation wants to reward the candidate for the performance shown in the current role. In such a case, the candidate is given a different position and a promotion.

If this has been the case, you can also check with HR and Ops the qualities/attributes/benchmarks they expect to see in a Credit Controller, and start building yourself for the same.

If this has not been the case and they are not able to provide a satisfactory explanation, then you have only 2 choices - Accept or change organisation. From what you have described, I'm sure that your organisation definitely appreciates you else they would not have given you that promotion.

If you look at changing organisations, it would still be wiser to accept and then change.

Whatever you choose, choose it after giving it a lot of calm thought. And choose an option that will genuinely make you happy or lead you towards happiness.

And in case you have any more queries or wish to discuss this further, please contact me at .

Just check with the job responsibility and the task assigned on to the new position. Check with the prospects of that position on to your career.. If you feel that it would add up some advantage on to your career prospects, then move on or else just escalate the offer...
