Dear Mr. ,
You can issue a Memo to that induvidual. Memo is just a simple letter of complaint against that person on his misconduct. However, the Show Cause Notice is something that if the induvidual fails to adhere the Memo related to his standing orders, reliable time frame is given in order to respond in written that as to why any disciplinary action shouldn't be taken against him?
You must be wondering; Why not a warning letter could be issued -- For a warning letter, you need to initially inquest (enquire) situation and then give a SNC; if found not upto scratch, an adequate chastisement followed by a warning letter is issued as final point from management.
I hope now you must be sure of to issue a Memo for the initial mistake.

Before going further please make sure that your Standing Orders (certified) permits engagement of trainees during night. An Apprentice engaged following the Apprentice Act is not expected to be engaged in night shift. In the case of such apprentices any action initiated should be with the permission of Apprentice Adviser, Related Instruction Centre or Central Apprentice Board, and as such if he does something wrong in night shift you cannot initiate an action against him.
