Respected Seniors!
Greetings of the day!!
I am standing on crossroads, not able to finding my right way, so putting my query in front of all of you for right direction.
Before I start my problem..i would like to mention few things about me which will help you to give suggestion to me (as these factors are important to keep in view)
1. I am a 34 year girl, who is the only earning member of my family.
2. Cann’t go outside of Delhi-NCR as need to take care of my mother also.
3. I have done PGDM (one year diploma) in HR last year
>I was working as a front office executive from last 12 years.
>It is 5+ years in my current company in NCR
>Due to my good performance I was promoted to AM-HR in April-12 by the management (This promotion was a surprise for me.)
>Then things took turn around.
>Few unethical people joined our firm, there were great clashes between my ethical & their unethical terms to work.
>Due to some worse situations & no exposure to learning (What work was given to a AM was actually the work of a Casual/Peon) I decided to change the job.
>Management assured me for a solution to this
>They transferred me temporarily to Delhi Branch, where I am working as a PA to a VP from last Two month…may be relived in few days as soon as the permanent PA joins..cant go back to NCR office..management may not allow to stay here more..
Problem 1 : what should i do now..confused.
Problem 2 : Which profile I should follow and show in my CV..Front Office, HR or Secretarial..i am getting calls for HR job, but I have no exposure to core HR..
Can you please help me by suggesting what should I do?
Regards

Hi,
As you have more experience answering the calls and drafting letters to Senior management, i would suggest to take up job in HR and specially with Recruitment. Recruitment is the area were companies dnt really look for Core HR exp. If have command on communication skills you can excel.

A good opportunity that you have been provided but destiny took you the other side of road and you lost your way with confusion where to go and where not. I completely understand your problem but few more things I wanna know from you.
You said that you been promoted as Asst Manager-HR but have 12+ years of work experience as a Front office Executive, therefore, I wanna know something more from you.
-How much knowledge you have?
You have shared that you have done with PGDM but the knowledge and experience is really matter, so
-With your Front Office Job, did you ever work on anything related to Admin & HR?
-Do you really wanna go with HR?
-You have done PGDM so it means you already have mind up to go with HR but as you have spent a good time of your career, cant get easily more chance to work with HR and have to fight for it too.
Second, you said that you are working as PA now from last two months and as it is September and you been promoted to AM-HR in April this year, so there would have no much time and chance for you to learn much things related to HR and work on the same profile which was obvious. Therefore, you have transferred and assigned job as PA to VP because you have large experience at Front Office experience. I will not say it a bad job or post because you have really reached at good position from Front Office.
You can continue with this PA post as you can get a handsome salary (a big help financially) with a relief in job though it is difficult to go with for the person who wants to for HR. But after a certain period or spending much time of career, has to decide according to the upcoming opportunities.
I am definitely not saying that you cant go with HR but for this way you have to go long to establish yourself with really minimum time.
Sometime situation put us on a road where we cant easily what we actually want or way /motive to run ahead but never can say are lost bcz the milestone we have achieve is also the thing that have had been a big experience and learning for us. In that case, our experience and learning help us a lot. Twelve long years at Front Office, you must have learned a lot related to Administration work and knowledge about it that can also.
About your question no. 2, you are working on PA (Secretarial) profile + 12 from office experience; you just need to go with “Personal Assistant cum Admin” profile, which is best thing that you can go with.

Hello,
Your current exp range seems to comprise Front-office & Secretarial functions, with a theoretical base on Core HR.
However, like Shashank & Anil Arora pointed out, Admin is usually a part of any Front Office role--only the scale & scope vary from level & company.
And going further, Admin tasks are invariably under the purview of HR Dept anywhere. So, in a way, you already have Admin skills in the larger HR perspective. That leaves the Recruitment & Core HR aspects.
Coming to Recruitment, it is a role/function that is BOTH easy to pick-up and YET tough to sustain, since after the initial steps [getting the resume, checking suitability, preliminary interviews, co-ordination, etc] in the recruitment process in any organization/industry, the people psychology skills come into play, MORE than the tangible aspects of the process [observing & understanding the body-language, etc]. Going by what you mentioned about your overall exp, you do seem to have people-handling skills. Just go ahead & capitalize on these skills you already have, rather than ruing the lack of Core HR skills.
As far as Core HR skills are concerned, these are something that can be picked up along the way--which isn't tough given that core HR skills essentially use the analysis, comparative & long-term vision skills in a person vis-a-vis the organizational needs, for which the basis is available in writing [in the form of HR Policies, etc].
In short, Core HR function uses the 'tangible' skills in the person more than the 'intangible' & Recruitment function is the reverse.
Applying the Half-Full/Half-Empty principle, I guess your glass is more-than-half-full, except that you don't realize it. Hope you get the point.
I presume you know more about your strengths & weaknesses--so now it's upto you to decide in which direction to move.
All the Best.

Hello ZX 34,
Since you have to be in Delhi and have more than a decade of experience in at least three areas
you can accept any thing that comes in your way either in your present office or a new office.
Hello Upendra,
How about a junior manager Or an officer designation?
