Introducing Biometric Attendance System
There is a need to introduce a Biometric Attendance System in my organization. The total strength of the company is 20-25 employees for the Bangalore location, and the company is mainly into trading and services of Electronics and Semiconductors.
As I have discussed with one of my seniors, who is also a consultant, he has informed me that there are no formalities for setting up the Biometric Attendance System in the organization if we are maintaining Form T. However, if there is a slight deviation in the format of Form T, then approval from the labor officer is required. The procedure will involve the submission of an application for approval, and the required format of attendance should be attached to the application.
I am waiting for your guidance as soon as possible.

We maintain a simple attendance format as Form T is not being maintained. So, kindly let me know if we need approval to set up the Biometric Attendance System.

Exemption for Computerized Attendance Systems
Under the Payment of Wages Act 1963, it is mandatory to maintain an Attendance Register/Payroll in a certain format. If any organization is shifting to computerized/electronic attendance/payroll systems, it must seek exemption from maintaining the prescribed attendance register/payroll from the concerned controlling authority under the Payment of Wages Act.
