Dear friends,
What licenses does a hotel require to maintain from the HR side? Are there any other medical policies we should follow? I heard that hotel HR should maintain the medical reports of HB and HIV records for all staff.
I am also looking for the PF/ESI registration procedure for a new hotel project coming up in Gurgaon. Can anyone please help me out?
Thank you in advance.
Radhika

Dear Radhika,
Leaving aside registration under PF & ESI, if applicable, your hotel will also be covered under the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishment Act, 1958. For this, you are required to obtain a registration certificate. You must apply for registration within 30 days of starting the business to the Shop Inspector in your area. It is important to note that every employee, including the employer, must undergo a medical examination by a competent medical authority. This authority will issue a certificate in Form I under Rule 19(3) of the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishment Rules, 1958. If you plan to employ more than 20 contract workers, you will also need to obtain Registration Certificate under this Act from the Registering Officer. Start working on these requirements promptly.
Best of luck to you.

This certificate will be valid for one year. After obtaining this certificate, the concerned employee will be considered free from any communicable diseases and will also be considered fit for employment in any establishment where food, drink, and beverages are served to customers.
