Hi Team,

I would like to know your opinion related to the notice period. There are 3 specific questions I need to understand:

1. I need to know the pros and cons of having a 3-month notice period in an organization.
2. How can one determine how much notice period different types of organizations should have?
3. What are the best ways, reasons, and explanations to convey to employees about a change in the notice period and how to handle the queries raised after the change? Please elaborate by providing examples from some companies.

Hi, notice periods can extend from a few days to months, with the maximum I have seen to date. Most of it depends on you and the management as to whether you want to continue with someone's service or not. One month is usually preferred to complete the takeover process of the leaving employee. If an employee is not performing, he or she is usually given a notice period of a maximum of 15 days to 1 month. The main concept is to align with the company policy, and there are no hard and fast rules unless it is documented for compliance.

Example: G4S Security Service

If you are decreasing the notice period, the best way is to politely inform the employee of the changes either personally or through an email. Ensure that the employee receives the notice period salary even if there have been changes in your program. Sometimes employees are flexible, but other times it can be challenging.
