Feedback Points for Managers

Sharayu, you may take the feedback on the following counts:

a) Ability to listen and respond constructively to team members' ideas.

b) Ability to be open with team members about your concerns.

c) Ability to express disagreement constructively and dispassionately (e.g., by emphasizing points of agreement, suggesting alternatives that may be acceptable to the group).

d) Ability to give honest and constructive feedback to the team members.

e) Ability to organize resources equitably when team members need it.

f) Ability to provide assistance, information, or other support to the team members, to build or maintain relationships with them.

Additional Comments

- The language used in the above text is a little tough. You may simplify it further. Secondly, the manager might be a disciplinarian. There is nothing wrong with being so, but those who are taskmasters are always disliked. Therefore, please note that you get accurate feedback. The feedback session should not become an occasion to hit back at the manager!

Dear Team,

I am working as an HR professional with an E-commerce company. Our management is interested in gathering feedback from junior employees about their managers. If anyone can assist me by providing points for evaluating managers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sharayu

Dear colleague,

Before one attempts framing any questions, I think it is necessary to know what the purpose of this exercise is and also the end goal. Is it part of Annual Performance Appraisal or a standalone activity?

If the purpose is not clarified to the employee giving feedback about the Manager, as rightly pointed out by Mr. Divekar, it is likely to degenerate into a hitting exercise, defeating the real purpose.

Dear Madam,

If this is the purpose, the focus of questions should be on whether the Manager is a good leader or not, i.e., is he leading by example and leading from the front. Does he encourage the team, appreciate their good acts, enable them to learn new things, and give enough freedom in day-to-day working, and above all give credit to the team for performance rather than to self.
