Dear All,

I have been working for the past 5 years. However, since this February, I have not been working as I am pursuing a master's degree. I am currently looking for an HR generalist profile to further my career.

I have been receiving offers for counseling positions in business schools, considering my previous experience in the same field. I seek kind guidance on whether I should opt for such an opportunity. Will it have a negative impact on my resume?

Satya

Well, as you have similar experience and also if you think it is a good opportunity for your career prospects, then I think you should accept this.

It's good that you are pursuing a Master's degree, and best of luck with this. However, one thing I want to know from you is whether it is a regular course or correspondence because you mentioned above that you have not been working since last February just because of your studies.

Deciding Between HR Generalist and Counseling

Second, what do you think is best for you: the HR Generalist profile you are looking for or Counseling, in which you also have experience? Which is your most interested field? Just try to figure out what you actually want.

What I think is that if you are not interested in Counseling and want to go into an HR Generalist profile, then I would say that you must do something for the HR Generalist Profile. However, for this, you require many things. But if you have an interest and know that Counseling is your area of interest and the best option for you and your career, you can achieve your goals by pursuing it. You must continue with it.

Understanding Your Career Path

Sometimes people never realize what they actually want, what their targets are, and their areas of interest, and they take the wrong path in their life/career. But the most important thing is that if one realizes where he/she wants to go, it is the way he/she likes most, enjoys the work most, and finds success. Do hard work wholeheartedly and do a lot to reach his/her aim.

That's what I think personally.

Regards.

Thank you so much for giving quick, valuable inputs on my query. The thing is that I do have experience in counseling, more than 2 years of it. However, I am certain that I want to pursue a career in the Generalist profile of HR. I have already worked in the Manufacturing Industry for 1.5 years. There, I worked as an HR assistant and handled most of the administration work. Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to learn Payroll, which many organizations are looking for during interviews.

I have been facing rejections in interviews, and therefore, I am considering starting to earn once again. I am feeling confused at the moment, as counseling is not my area of interest.

The course I am currently pursuing is a dedicated HR course, a full-time program conducted under Pune University. I will wait for your further advice on the same.

Thanks & Regards,
Satya

You're most welcome, Satya. Yes, I know that you have just joined us, and your first three posts are about what I have answered to you... lol. Well, I would say that you always need to keep this enthusiasm alive. One more thing for you: what I used to say to myself every day is, "If you want to learn anything sincerely, you don't need to find a teacher for this; the teacher will find you himself." Just keep this in your mind always. You can achieve everything you want and do it sincerely in this regard. Best of luck with your future.
