Recruitment is part of the overall HR Process. If you see HR as the world then Recruitment may be considered as Srilanka. Regards Vasanth

Hi,

You asked about the difference between a Recruiter and an HR professional. Here's a breakdown:

There is a significant difference in job responsibilities between a recruiter and an HR executive/generalist.

Recruiter Responsibilities:

1. Receives requirements from superiors or clients.
2. Searches for suitable profiles through job portals, headhunting, and references.
3. Contacts candidates to assess their skills.
4. Schedules interviews either at the company or the client's location.
5. Follows up with candidates and clients post-interview.
6. Requests offer letters from shortlisted candidates or clients.
7. Closes positions and starts the search for new requirements.

On the other hand, HR executive/generalist duties include:

1. Involvement in the recruitment process.
2. Training and development responsibilities.
3. Handling induction procedures.
4. Managing the appraisal process.
5. Overseeing payrolls and other related tasks.

In reality, HR executives predominantly focus on recruitment with less involvement in other functions.

Hi,

How can a recruiter shift their role to a Generalist role? What is it that they have to do in case they are looking for a Generalist opening? Could somebody please provide an answer for this?

Hi Meera & Sandhya,

As of now, you have knowledge only in Recruitment, which is a part of HR. Expand your knowledge into other areas of HR such as:

- Induction
- Retention Policies
- Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
- Training & Development (T&D)
- Attendance & Leave Management
- ESI, PF, PT, Bonus, Gratuity & other acts
- Payroll
- Motivation
- Exit Interview
- Full and Final Settlement
- Liaison

If you acquire knowledge in these areas, it will definitely be beneficial for securing an HR position.

Hey Mahima,

You are working as an IT recruiter. Could you please tell me what IT recruiters do? Someone told me that it's a very good and comfortable job where you can get a good salary of 30k to 40k after one year of experience in a US or UK shift, and it's not a calling profile like BPO.

I also found an answer for this on Yahoo, and it is totally different. I'm pasting the link here. Please read that answer and tell me if it is right or not. In reality, what is the work of an IT recruiter?

The answer on Yahoo is:

Working as an IT recruiter, you would be on the phone all the time in the morning and at night. You will take calls from people interested in jobs and clients looking for workers. Many of your current employees will call you about job problems, and you often have to get to them during the evening. You will have pressure to get as many people working.

I would say the future is bright since IT is in demand, and it's a challenging job. So challenging that people who know nothing about IT can get a job in it. It's a job that nobody really wants.

Hi,

You have a question regarding the difference between the Recruiter and the HR. It goes like this:

There is a significant difference in the job responsibilities for the recruiter compared to the HR executive/generalist role.

Recruiter: (Process to follow and work done)

1. Gets a requirement from the superior or clients.
2. Searches for the profiles for the requirement through job portals, headhunting, and references.
3. Calls the candidate and tests whether he is matching with the skill set required.
4. Calls the candidate for the interview at your place or for the client at the client's place.
5. Follows up with the candidate and the client after the interview.
6. If shortlisted, then asks for the offer letter from the client or candidate.
7. Closes the position and searches for other requirements.

However, the HR executive or HR generalist job is quite different:

1. Works in the recruitment process.
2. Works with the training and development process.
3. Works for the induction process.
4. Works for the appraisal process.
5. Works with payrolls, and many more processes.

In reality, the HR Executive primarily works in recruitment and less in other departments.

Bye,
Sandeep

What are the posts after promotion from an IT recruiter (US shift)?

Hello Manish,

I don't know what prompted you to keep adding your posts one after the other...

The reason there was no answer to it was perhaps because the people who viewed it might not have had the answers, and there were others who didn't view it...

Always remember one thing, irrespective of what career path you take, patience is the key to success.

To answer your queries:

IT recruitment and BPO are two different job roles but are quite similar. Both involve talking to people and solving their doubts or checking them for the desired position.

So ideally, once you're given an IT position for which you're to source candidates, you'd have to find resumes using job portals or social media sites and then contact those candidates and talk to them regarding their interest in the job and also conduct the telephonic interview if required.

IT people are required everywhere, and hence perhaps you might be handling many positions.

Every job has its pros and cons.

The positive of handling the IT Recruiter's position is you get profiles and candidates easily.

However, I would like to emphasize that unless you give extra effort and know exactly what the client wants, you'd never be able to close a position, which will add to your frustration.

Secondly, you asked whether or not you'd be on the telephone... Well, we can't just have a look at a CV and get to know whether the person is fitting in the job role or if he's interested in this.... You'll have to speak to candidates, and believe me, it will only add to your knowledge and experience.

Thirdly, the career path...

It depends. After handling the IT recruiter's position with some consultants for a few years, you may apply in the IT firms to handle their internal recruitment needs. Slowly you can progress to Recruitment Head.

Hope this helped you.
