Seeking Advice on Implementing HR Policies in a Manufacturing Company

Recently, I joined a manufacturing company. It's different from my past experience, so I want help on how to implement HR policies and regulations in this company without causing any negative changes. Most employees are very experienced—are these changes acceptable or not?

Kindly help me out with the same.

Thank you.

As you mentioned, most employees are very experienced and familiar with the company's environment. It would be beneficial to establish some new policies and engage in discussions with them regarding these policies. By doing so, you will undoubtedly receive great support from them. I have also implemented similar practices, such as leave policies and regulations on tardiness.

Thank you.

Dear Sapna,

First of all, have a meeting with all HODs and line supervisors to find out what they are expecting from you. Also, interact with the majority of the employees and find out what they are also expecting.

Since you mentioned that they have been there for a long time, it may be difficult for them to accept sudden change as change is often painful. Therefore, any change should be like a "sugar-coated pill." For example, to address late arrivals, you can consider implementing an attendance bonus concept. Those who are punctual and take fewer leaves can be eligible for a bonus, while habitual latecomers should be warned. After 2 or 3 instances, disciplinary actions can be taken.

The best time to implement new rules and regulations is during annual increments. This way, you are offering something positive while also introducing changes.

To successfully carry out these actions, it is crucial to ensure that people believe HR is there to support them in times of need, though this is not an easy task.

Regards,
Kamesh
