Firstly it's sad that your brother gets the offer and the offer get withdrawn after BGV.
Wonder if your brother checked and rechecked all the information provided.
People are very careful when they make such scrutiny's.
In most cases, once the BGV is not satisfactory, there are very little chances for reconsideration, however, once can approach the HR and ask for clarification as there could be a mistake, in terms or names being the same and issuing the letter wrongly. They mostly handle these transactions in high volumes and will also have a solid process in place, so chances of making mistakes are rare, in cases of withdrawal of offer after a negative report on BGV's. Even taking this to be a be a rarity, however, worth checking. One can make an appeal, as there is always a possibility of a mistake. It's only a trial the company may or may not oblige as they would treat it as 'confidential' and 'closed'.

Probably all IT companies doing BGV with third party agencies. Sometimes, it might be wrong. But, you could check with the concern HR department the offer declined due to back ground verification failed.

Very valid question, and answer to it is, that,INITIATE, talk to the HR Department's concern person about the issue and if you find that information given from your end is wrong then ask for the procedure to rectify it and if the information provided is correct then you can correct them if management permits. Also it depends where the discrepancy is in, whether its in your employment, education,criminal,passport, pan card etc .

The comments given by our fellow members is precise and you shall inform your brother to speak with the HR team in TCS. A requisition email followed up by a personal visit should work.
However my comments from a different point of you. You have mentioned that your brother got an offer and the joining date was also specified. If your brother is working somewhere, was that company aware that your brother is looking out for a change? Many employers (HR team) who does not want their present employee to leave may give, not a great comments as a reply to the verification email. Which might provoke the new company to with held the offer.
Considering your brother as a fresher. If hired from a campus directly, then 99% there would any BGV about your brother's credentials. Off campus do have BGV, however like others said ask your brother to check the details furnished to TCS. Also errors occurring in BGV process, who deals with CMMI level company are less than .10%

While companies claim to have been attained CMM Level 5 they use it for publicity, they could have multiple center/branches and various practices, they could have been on the basis of a center or practice. In this case this is a fresher and the company in question is TCS, (some center/s could be assessed at Level 5 - on CMM, hence it would be interesting to see if the candidate has a rejection on BGV from the assessed at Level 5 - on CMM.)

Coming to the aspect of rectification, or seeking redressing/addressing the issue costs nothing, even if it should mean a rejection. All of us know, there are a lot of professionals who would find it difficult to admit they made a mistake, who knows it might cost them their job, so why will they put their neck on the noose. It's easier therefore to say, we found there is nothing incorrect in the BGV and so we reject.
Trial has to be made irrespective of the result.

I appreciate your time and energy in guiding the boy for a realtime solution. I advise the boy to directly check with HR - TCS , though there are little and meagre chances for re-consideration , for some time assuming that BGV is correct, it is better to try , which will be useful for his future career prospects and be care ful while providing BGV details to any employer

As I am in this sector for a reasonable period from 2004 with reasonable success, I would like to share my insights on BGV.
BGV is to be conducted without bias and with utmost confidentiality.
The offer states clearly if the BGV is negative based on what all you have produced in written form and said orally, the offer stands cancelled.
Prior to BGV most of the companies intimate the practice of BGV and the impact of the results.
When it is carried out through 3rd party, we do not see the any influencing factors affecting the process.
The process is by large accepted by customers as they have also have internal checking besides BGV.
Depending on the job responsibilities, job designation and level the process will have slights changes in process.
But in all the above areas, as HR professional, founder of our BGV organisation, we only see from the employer point of view irrespective of the fact whether the hire is a fresher or experience. It is expected of the candidates to be upright, honest concerning to all facets of employment and educational profile. Further I may add that BGV is only a recommending authority of acceptance or rejection of candidature. But it is upto the clients to take it or alter it.
Many profiles contain either falsified contents with respect to the period, designation and the salary. There are gaps without any correct reasons. There is nothing wrong in the gaps in employment history or educational record as long as it is fair and just. But in order to be be impressive, candidates fudge some of these areas.
I would like to reiterate the time tested concept -- It is always ideal to be honest irrespective of trying times in one's life, especially under the current economic, employment and moral down turn. In the long run it pays highest dividends in one's life.

Dont you think that its the right of the candidate to know what went wrong with the BGV.
I dont understand what is so confidencial about this?
ALL HR if your reading this please give a chance to someone who is desperately requesting to know the reason for a negative BGV.
You may be loosing a valuable candidate!!!

I am having the same issue.
I am having 10 years experience in IT field. Two weeks ago, I have cleared technical, MR and HR interviews in TCS.
HR told me that after BG verification, offer letter will be released. When I accomplished my HR interview, third party verification team go to my previous employer and verify about me. They have informed me about verification. After that I have not received any communication from TCS. I have called to Delivery Head from TCS who is interviewed by me for MR and ask the status. They told me that he will check with HR and confirm. Again he called me and informs that BGC verification having some issue. Thatís why they are not processed.
My experience is with only 2 employers. The verification done by directly with my previous employer. And also they gave the verification company details. It is small company. I donít know whether they verified my current company or not.
In TCS portal, they are not updating this reason. I have sent the Mail to TCS HR and ask the status.
But I have given documents and my experience details are 100% true.
I am totally depressed and disappointed. I want to know the exact reason for this? Is somebody deliberately playing in my future? Shall I send the Mail to third party team in this regard? I have taken the Head of verification team mail id from their website. How can I deal this? Please suggest me.

It is very unfortunate to learn your story. With due respects to your past employers and TCS, I wish to make the following suggestions:
1. Go through your resume that you submitted in the interview.
2. Go through the detailsof the resume minutely in all areas.
3. Review all the documents and records that are sent as supportive or credentials
4. Introspect all the key or critical areas of the relationship in the past employment history.
5. Recall if there is an element of mistrust or misrepresentation of the data involving the financial/cash dealings in the customer management.
6. Last but not the least check out yourself if -- in the past --you are party or have connived with some one for any activity that are detrimental to company interests like pilferage, property theft, data theft or sabotage.
Please be assured that no company worth the salt at any level will do any damage to the candidature of the individuals especially young, qualified and honest and refuse to recruit them when the BG comes out with a clean chit. No HR manager should loose a right a candidate as much as not to take the wrong candidate.

Now the BGV team is not able to validate my monthlong employment in the earlier company. Can this lead to my candidature being nullified. Its not my fault right.
