Respected sirs, We have already installed CCTV cameras on the floor about 8 years ago. Now, the management is installing more cameras as collective bargaining is set to begin soon. Union members are disturbed and are asking for an explanation about the increased cameras. For my development, I want to know the real necessity of CCTV cameras on the shop floor. Kindly reply.

Thanks.

Dear Sir,

The installation of CCTV cameras in the shop floor area serves multiple purposes, ensuring a secure and efficient working environment for all employees. Some key reasons for increasing surveillance include:

Workplace Safety

Additional cameras help in monitoring workplace safety, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and preventing potential accidents or hazards.

Security and Theft Prevention

Enhanced surveillance acts as a deterrent against unauthorized activities, theft, or property damage.

Operational Efficiency

CCTV footage assists in analyzing workflow efficiency, identifying bottlenecks, and improving productivity.

Compliance and Dispute Resolution

With collective bargaining discussions approaching, management may use CCTV footage as a transparent tool to review workplace conditions and address concerns objectively.

Employee Protection

Surveillance can help resolve workplace conflicts, prevent harassment, and ensure fair treatment of employees.

While the expansion of CCTV coverage may raise concerns among employees, it is primarily intended to improve security and workplace management. If union members require further clarification, they may engage in an open discussion with management.

  • Thank you all for the reasons listed. I am grateful for the information provided. Just one more doubt: can action be taken against an employee who is not near the machine, or whatever it may be, by showing the CCTV footage? In that case, what should be done for very senior employees who are set to retire in 2 to 3 years from now, as they may not be as efficient due to their age.
