The Tamil Nadu government issued a notification last year to install CCTV cameras in factories where more than 100 employees work. I am attaching the newspaper cutting for your reference and records. Most of the union and employees will object to this installation because they believe the management will monitor their daily activities and waste their time. Kindly explain that the purpose of installing these cameras is not to monitor employees but to safeguard materials and belongings from unauthorized individuals and to ensure safety.

It is very much legal to install CCTV cameras inside the shop floor. You need to notify the employees about this and display a poster saying "Property under electronic surveillance." You need not worry about the unions. Those issues will always be there. You need to explain to the unions the purpose of the CCTV installation.

Many companies are installing CCTVs on shop floors not only for security reasons but also for safety and productivity purposes. CCTVs can be used for conducting JSA (Job Safety Analysis), correcting any safety violations, maintaining a hazard-free working environment, and for time and motion studies, etc.

Your intentions should be clear to convince the unions. If you are signaling that the CCTVs will be installed to spy on employees/workers, then your task will become difficult.
