Hi, I am a mechanical engineer working in the core field. I have worked for five companies, with the third company being BBO. In that company, I worked for only one month as I had to discontinue due to health issues. During my time there, I took a four-day leave—two days were informed, and two were uninformed. Subsequently, the management sent a termination email citing the uninformed leave and also added my name to the PF account.

Now, in my new company, the Background Verification (BGV) process is not allowing me to join due to this issue. How can I convince them to release the offer letter, especially since we are unable to delete the PF account?

Dear Ramesh Surya,

I recommend you write an application to the head of the organization explaining the facts. The tone of the application should be formal and avoid informal words or phrases. Instead of "uninformed leave," write, "as I was sick, I could not obtain proper approval from my reporting manager, and it was considered as 'unauthorized absence'."

Going further, you may write, "My unauthorized absence was considered as misconduct, and my services were terminated. Termination of services is a punishment of the highest kind; however, if my candidature is ignored because of my misconduct in past employment, it will be a double punishment. In view of this, my candidature may not be viewed against what has happened in the past."

Final comments: The tone of your post is informal. You have written it casually as if you were informing an incident to your friend. The person with five employments behind him was expected to know how to write posts on a public forum. Well, gentleman, the sooner you get rid of this casualness, the better, lest it will hold back your career's growth.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Communicate openly

Talk to your current employer about the situation and explain the circumstances surrounding your short tenure. Be honest about the health issues you faced and the reasons for the uninformed leave. Emphasize that it was an exceptional circumstance that does not reflect your overall work ethic or commitment.

Provide references

Offer references from your previous companies where you have had longer tenures. These references can vouch for your work ethic, skills, and professionalism, which may help alleviate concerns about your employment history.

Address the termination

Acknowledge the termination in your previous company and express what you learned from the experience. Discuss any steps you've taken to address the health issue and demonstrate your commitment to maintaining good health moving forward.

Showcase your skills and qualifications

Highlight your qualifications, expertise, and relevant experience that make you a valuable asset to your new company. Provide examples of successful projects, achievements, or positive feedback from previous employers to reinforce your capabilities.

Offer reassurance

Assure your prospective employer that the circumstances that led to the termination and uninformed leave were exceptional and will not impact your performance in the new role. Express your dedication and commitment to the job and emphasize your eagerness to contribute to the company's success.

Seek legal advice

If the background verification process continues to pose challenges, it may be helpful to consult with an employment attorney who can provide guidance on how to navigate the situation and protect your rights.

Remember to remain professional and maintain open lines of communication. Good luck.
