I would like to know how I can efficiently file the personnel files (201 files). Do you think they should be filed under employee names, or would it be better to organize them under categories such as employment, background, etc.?

Please advise.

Thanks,

It is advisable to maintain personal files in the names of the employees so that you can access all information pertaining to an individual employee from appointment, probation, confirmation, P.F & ESI information, disciplinary matters, to full and final settlement details in one place. If it is organized subject-wise, such as appointment, probation, termination, P.F., etc., you would have to check a large number of files to gather information about one employee. You can explore utilizing technology to benefit in maintaining personal files.
