Dear all,
I am doing my final year PGDM with HR and Finance as my specialization. I am interested in getting into payroll as it interests me. I would like to know how to prepare myself and also if there is any other advice that could be helpful for my placements.
Thanks to all

Dear Priyanka,
Usually, payroll is not the first choice of any HR professional. What made you choose it as a major function of your job? You're from Bangalore, which means from Karnataka. Every state has various labor laws. First, get some information on the minimum wages of your state for all three categories - unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled labor.
Learn about the components (break-ups) of salary, i.e., what constitutes a salary, what are allowances, etc. Most organizations are running payroll operations on various ERP modules like SAP, PeopleSoft, etc. Thus, you may be one of the lucky ones to have training on SAP and PeopleSoft. These trainings are highly demanded today and very expensive too.
Warm regards,

Thank you for the response.
I really have no clue as to what to take up and prepare for my placements. I did my training in recruitment at one of the best consultancies and got a lot of exposure there.
My friends have told me that the first profile for an HR fresher is recruitment. Is this true? I really am tensed and don't know what to do? The placements in my college are starting very soon, and so I would like some guidance. Please help.

Hi dear,
What are you really interested in? Recruitment is fun, but payroll is boring for me. Generalist profiling is tiring, while training is exciting. That's my view. What's yours?

Hey, thanks a lot. I found recruitment interesting as I did my training at Ma Foi Consultancy; it was great fun. I don't know much about payroll. Can you please suggest some companies I can approach for my placements since the placement from my college is bad for HR?

Hi Subha,
I really need help. When I approached my teachers for some guidance, they all told me that recruitment is a good option for a fresher. They also mentioned that a fresher is generally asked about recruitment. As the placements are about to start in my college, if I am asked in the interview why I chose HR as my career and what its future prospects are, what should my reply be?

Priyanka
