Dear Seniors, I've been offered a job in a company where the HR department does not currently exist. They want me to build a proper HR department there. I need your help and advice. Kindly guide me on how I should start. What are the areas I should focus on initially? What sort of activities or work should I begin there? How could I start building/developing a department from scratch?

You need to study organizational culture, identify core values, vision, and mission, and accordingly, you need to make policies.

- Operation Department, etc.
Also, you need to focus more on training & development. This includes induction for new joiners, creating job descriptions for senior managers in HR/Account/IT/Sales/Operation, and defining basic job profiles for each department.
New Initiatives
Another new initiative includes birthday celebrations, holiday lists, salary slips including CTC, and many more. First and foremost, identify what the top management wants and why they want to introduce HR. Identify the specific reasons. Fulfill those requirements with the essence of HR - Human Touch!
