Hi Heyman,
Thank you, friend. I am working in an IT company. We specialize in IT managed services and assist clients with their IT infrastructure management. I have been tasked with creating departmental policies for various departments such as sales, pre-sales, HR, etc. I am unsure how to approach developing policies for departments other than HR, so please assist me in formulating the HR department's policy.

Dear Durga,
HR policy is very vital for any organization. It brings transparency and clarity to HODs as well as to staff, helping HR to implement the policy. Basically, you must cover all the functions of HR relevant to the organization such as:
- Manpower planning
- Recruitment
- Induction
- Job description
- Performance Management (KRA based)
- Increment
- Salary
- Promotion
- Transfer
- Training
- Career development
- Resignation / Termination
- Disciplinary procedure
In my opinion, it can be written as a set of policies, but I prefer you can make it as SOP (standard operating procedure) or QP (Quality procedure) as required in ISO standards. I hope you will understand and take it further. Please revert for any assistance.

Dear Durga,
I have not come across a separate departmental policy for the HR department. The implementation of HR policies is the responsibility of the HR department, and hence these policies can be considered policies for the HR department. I request seniors to shed some light on this matter.

I am newly appointed as an HR Manager for a private university. I need to implement policies as this department is new for this institute. Can anybody help me out by providing clear guidelines on what policies or steps I need to take? They already have an Admin department that handles all processes of filing, etc. How can I demonstrate my efficiency in implementing some new strategies? They already have PF, gratuity, maternity leave, etc.
Thanks a lot.

Designing Your HR Processes
Designing your HR processes is the first step you need to take (given that you have a strategy, structure, job titles, and grading in place). Then you can go ahead and run a historical background check on the company history by meeting with other department heads and validating all that has been set by referring to your data.
Once the above data is gathered, validated, and analyzed, you will have a general idea of what the practice involves and what employee rights and obligations have been established over time. You can then start linking the above to your grading and differentiate between core and support areas in your business across all your policy chapters.
Hope the above helps you in your mission.
All the best,
