Dear Deepa!
Yes Of course HR's approach is pro friendly towards employees! HR's prime job is to facilitate its employees by providing better working conditions and environment. At times HR is criticized for being not so cooperative. Let me explain here hands of HR are tied and they are required to work within the set rules. But otherwise their role and approach is always to support, help and cooperate its employees.

Dear Ms. Deepa,
The Answer to your question is as simple than anything else to be explained.
"HR professionals have a persuasive, friendly personality and an ability to deal with conflict. Strategically they should be fair minded in terms dealing with the employees, discrete among their personal attributes."
Being too "Cordial" is perilous to the Organization as a whole. Frendliness should be at its limits that HR should have the ability to see the big picture as well relate to all levels.

Deepa,
HR can always have a friendly behavior with employees tagged with their job adherence. This is purely dynamic as HR personnel is a people person and should be well aware of how to present in a better face value. At times we may forcibly need to be strict and process bounded, however that is purely because of the framed process set. In general, HR should be a good listener, and that comes only when he/she is supportive and cooperative.

Dear Ms Deepa, HR could be friendly, but can it be always?. It may be perilous at times, as pointed out by Sharmila Das. But, at the same time, 'keeping a stiff upper lip also does not cedrtainly help. In managing the human resources and integrating them to the compan's objective would require various types of persuasive mechanisms, certainly overindulgence in one or the other method would not help. But where lies the delicate balance is too difficult to answer as it depends on a variety of factors. However, one thing is clear, the best answer would lie in 'One may not oblige always, but could talk obligingly'. So even where a 'NO' is to be said, it could be said without hurting the receiver. This is highly delicate art and one may mentally reherse many times as to how the unpalatable news is to be broken. KK

Thank you all for your valuable thoughts/inputs
Yes Ashish I agree with your point maintaining confidentiality is also one of the reason I asked this question.sometimes when I say it is confidential they feel organization doesn't trust their employees and there are situations like we have to take blame on us even though we done it because of certain rules and regulations set by organization/Management

HR should be friendly in encouraging the employees/colleagues to air their views with comfort. It should not be vindictive.
However, it should not bend rules or be able to take decisions on merit dispassionately.
A colleague of mine used to describe the ideal approach a Front Line Manager should have in dealing with his juniors (related to Pharma): Your Junior "should Feel Like Putting his Hands on Your Shoulder" but "Dare Not Do it".
I feel, with HR it should be a similar attitude.

Dear Deepa,
First of all HR is supporting function in the organization they are placed there to support the peoples. E.g for an engineer all the equipments and instruments and machinery are asset similarly for an HR manpower is asset for them only thing is to "Handle with care" because they have the emotions, sentiments, ego etc and being as a friend they will share their grievances their issues finally Hr should not be represented as fear factor image.
