The Universal Account Number was designed to give a unique number and not to facilitate the employers to get the employment history. The passbook of the employee is like a bank passbook and the entry to it was restricted only to the member. But in recent years, the agencies conducting background verification are seen taking information about services, overlapping services etc from the PF sites using the UAN. This indicates that the employers have access to employee service history. In my opinion, it should not be allowed. The employer has no right to get the details from the official websites because the website is not expected to expose such details to any outsider.
