I worked in Sutherland global services from 2012 to Oct 2014, since I was not interested to work in that company I told them that Im gonna put down my papers. They told me to work in that company as I can expect growth. So, I decided to work, I came to realize that as a manager/tl they are trying to retain me, so I decided to abscond and I did not go to office for a work. They used to call me everyday, finally they texted me saying that my manager wanted to speak. I went to my office, again they tried to retain me, revoked my hold, I worked for 2-weeks, again I did not go to office due to some family problem starting from 19th Oct our payroll ends on 25th of every month salary will be credited on end of the month. I got my Oct month salary credited. I had no idea to go to office but since I worked for yrs, everyone of my friend suggested to get a proper relieving. Today I sent an e-mail to my program HR stating all this, I informed that Im ready to pay one month of salary to compensate notice period but he replied me that they cannot give me any papers nothing can be done, one cannot sinply pay money and get relieving letter . they wont even me any termination letter. Pls help me with this...I need my relieving letter

Well, as you served for years in the company then it will be better to serve notice period to make your point valid to the future employments even if they do not give you relieving letter. In this way, you can show to the new employer that you have properly resigned on such date and further serve the notice period or in lieu paid the amount in case not served the notice period by showing the proofs of your joining, and proper way of leaving the company.

Radhikha,
If you were not interested in working that company then why did you stayed second time? Did they promised pay raise or promotion? I am afraid to say that both your manager and you did not show professionalism. If you were not interested in the job, you should have served your notice period and left. What is the point of staying again and again? On the other hand your manager also lacks professional attitude. If he wants to retain you, he should offer some more benefits to you and if still you do not want to continue your job then he should give your experience and relieving letter.

Dear Radhika, I think there is no use blaming anybody, your manager or yourself, it is but proper for you to tender a formal resignation. Make it documented, emails and verbals are unprofessional.

Hello Radhikha,

Further to what the other members suggested/mentioned, you haven't mentioned WHY you didn't want to work in this Company.

While everyone has his/her right to make personal choices, one should also remember that he/she ought to follow the Rules of the game.

Going by what you mentioned, you don't seem to be clear in your mind as to why you want to leave OR your next step. Else your decision to stay back to work again for 2 weeks doesn't make logical sense. AND by absconding, I am not sure what you tried to achieve--EXCEPT complicating the issue.

Pl note that the concept of paying salary in-lieu of Notice period is BI-DIRECTIONAL & MUTUAL--NOT just because it suits you fine. Pl go thru the relevant clauses in your Appointment Letter.

Without sounding judgemental, suggest try & learn to take responsibility for your actions. Else, you are bound to have more such situations in your career.

Coming to 'what to do now', the only way is to sit coolly with your HR and/or Manager & resolve the issue--i.e. IF you want the Relieving & Experience Letters. No point going on an 'ego-trip'--it's YOU who will be effected, NOT the company.

All the Best.

Totally agree with TS here. Here's my point-by-point take on it.

1. Yo u didn't want to continue working there. You haven't given further details. Was it relocation due to marriage, better job, bad boss or something else?

2. U seem to have worked there for quite a bit of time, but the management/ur boss must have been irked a little by your behavior while leaving.

3. U are right in wanting a proper relieving from them. Hence it is prudent to sit down with them and talk. Swallow your pride you have to and admit to your mistakes.

4. I will even say that it is alright to be unclear about what yo u want to do for the future. Yet u will have to figure out a future course of action after leaving sutherland. Getting a decent job in current market is difficult, especially in HR.

5. Consider all these things and decide if you want to leave, or stay.

6. I have made these observations based on the brief you gave. I can only say that don't do anything that doesn't seem right. Think long term.

Dear Radhika,

From your problem I gathered a few points which I would like to present below and try to suggest remedy, try if it suits you.

1. You are not satisfied with the career growth as expected by you. If yes, please meet your HR Manager/Unit Head/Head of Department (as per the system in your Establishment) and try to convince them that you deserve more than what is being given, provided rules of the estb. permits for such out of turn hike/promotion.

2. You have taken it for granted that you will get some more suitable job elsewhere. If yes, please ensure about your alternate job first and then tender your resignation and serve for notice period or if Standing Orders/Rules permit, deposit money in lieu of notice period.

3. You have some personal issues with some of the peers or some other fellow employees/boss(s). If yes, I would very humbly suggest that pl keep away ego and try to bring harmony in personal relations. If you are serious to serve, you will have to learn adjustment, sooner the better. There is saying - "If you and boss are good, you are lucky. If you are good but the boss is not, boss is lucky." Boss has the authority to change you but you don't.

You will find similar situations in most of the offices where things are not as you had expected. How many times can you go for a change. Plus, as you wrote, you Company and the Managers are willing to let you continue, but you are the one who is absconding from your work. This does not speaks good of you, whatever might be the reasons. Being a HR personnel, I request you to go to some Counselor who will appreciate your problem better face to face.

In any case I wish you a happy and bright future ahead.

Dear Ms. Radihka,
All the thoughts you share here seem so disconnected, because I do not understand why will anyone want to keep them in the company if they didn't want them. Would be interesting to note what were the terms of the appointment too. In continuation of what Taj Satesh and Adityaoak have responded to, I've not been able to get enough data to offer any thought. Should you want quality in-puts I suggest you respond to the following questions.
1. Is this your first job?
2. How many years experience do you have ?
3. How did you get to know about the Southerland job and when you took the job @ Southerland Global
what position were you recruited for?
4. Did they give you a JD and your KRA?
5. What is it that you wanted and what is it you got?
6. What made you take up the job and now what makes you leave the job (genuine reason, not the one you
tell them).
7. Are you toying around with another offer?

I spoke to my Program HR regarding this, he told me nothing can be done.Since you did not turn up to office from Oct-19th which is almost a month so, We have done your separation process as Absconding. What shall I do now. All I need is my relieving letter and experience even am ready to pay one month salary but he is not accepting. It is a private concern a bpo firm.
