Can I know how you calculate CL and SL if the employee joins in the middle of the year, like in March 2022? If the CL is 12 and SL is 6, how many CL and SL is he entitled to once he completes his probation? Does he get from March till December, or does he get from June till December?

It depends on a number of factors. One is whether you are in a factory, office, or shop. The second is which state you are in. You need to refer to the relevant act and the state rules. You also need to review the Standing Orders (if applicable to you). Once you have the details, someone can provide you with a proper answer.

Dear Sruthi, When you raise any question on leave or other conditions of service of employees, it is always better to mention the type of establishment to which the question relates. Since the question relates to casual leave and sick leave, I presume yours is an establishment coming under the State Shops and Establishments Act. When an employee joins the establishment in the middle of the year, both types of leave would be applicable to him on a proportionate basis only during the rest of the year. Strictly speaking, the period of probation does not curtail any employment benefits like leave. However, the general industry practice is that probationers would be allowed to avail such leave depending on the length of service they have rendered so far only.
