Hi All,

I have a query regarding the probation period. I am working in an IT company that is 1.5 years old with 60 employees. I was the first HR recruited here. In my company, everyone who joins has a probation period of 6 months. However, if we recruit a Senior Software Engineer with 3+ years of experience, I believe the probation period should be 3 months. My boss disagrees and says it should be the same for everyone. I think there should be some difference for a fresher versus a senior person. Can anyone help me with what I should do in this situation?

Dear Shilpa,

It is not necessary to have a difference in the probation period. It is your internal policy, but in my view, the probation period should be the same for all. Actually, what is the need for probation? You can assess his way of working, performance, behavior, etc. The length of service does not matter for all these things.
