Hi, I am looking for freelance work in HR. I have completed a diploma in HR from Welingkar's Institute of Management in Mumbai in May 2007. What kind of opportunities would be available for me as a fresher?

My current job profile is not in HR, but I work closely with the HR team in extracting candidate resumes from job boards. Can anyone guide me on this?

Hi Aditi,

Congratulations on your passing out of the Diploma. Could you tell me what is the duration of the diploma course, and is it direct or correspondence?

In fact, I don't have much experience in this freelance line. However, if you gain knowledge about EPF, ESI, and Central Excise work, it could be a plus point for you. You can contact some small organizations locally that usually outsource these tasks through consultants and earn a handsome amount. Even in large organizations, several contractors with more than 20 workers seek freelancers' help for such tasks. So, you can consider this option.

Another suggestion is that since you are dealing with resumes and personal biodatas, you can create a databank of different qualifications and locations. This way, you will have the opportunity to work as a freelancer or consultant.

Please get back to me with your reactions.

Bye, all the best!

Hi,

Before you think of taking up work in HR on a freelance basis, you need to understand what your strengths are and where you would want to be two years from now. This would help you shape your career and move in a direction that would help you attain your career goals. It would be easier for others to comment on which area you should go for if you could share details of your diploma course.

Regards,
Avi

Hi,

Thank you for your updates. I am basically comfortable with the paperwork of HR in my current organization. However, experience in recruitments is expected if you want to pursue a career in HR. HR is a vast subject, but I believe there is significant scope specifically for a Resource Executive role.

I do not have direct experience in recruitments as we have a dedicated resource executive in our organization. However, I assist her in extracting resumes from job boards. I have performed well in Organisational Behavior, Industrial Relations, HRM, Manpower Planning, Business Communication, and IT for Management. Other subjects I have studied include Business Law, Principles of Management, Marketing Management, and Accounts.

Do you think there is any scope for me in the HR field?
