Career Transition from Military to Private Sector

I am presently working in the Indian Air Force as a Medical Assistant and will be completing my 20 years of service in February 2015. My job involves office administration duties such as maintaining office correspondence, daily mail updates, manpower management, and organizing various health camps. My educational qualifications include a B.Com (2001) and an MBA in HR (2014). As I am preparing to leave the service, I need to find a new job. I am not interested in continuing in the medical field, specifically in roles like Hospital Administration.

I am considering transitioning to a career in private companies. Do you think it is a wise decision? Are there opportunities for me to shift from hospitals to private sector companies? I would appreciate your suggestions.

Thank you.

My first advice to you is never to quit your present job without having another suitable job offer in hand. Once you quit a job without another job lined up, your bargaining power is zero, making it difficult for you to secure any job.

Conduct a SWOT Analysis

My second advice is to conduct a SWOT analysis. Clarify your vision and position yourself for a specific role in the job market. Register yourself on various job portals.

All the best to you.
