Dear Seniors, I have received an offer to become a Branch Manager at a bank. The HR department at the new bank is insisting that I join within 15 days. However, according to my current employer's rules, I am required to serve a 30-day notice period, with the option to adjust some of those days using my Privilege Leave. I had communicated this during the interview process as well.

I am faced with a situation where the new bank is prepared to compensate for my notice period, but my current employer is not willing to accommodate this request. As this job opportunity is a dream come true for me, I am keen on not letting it slip away. The HR team at the new bank has made it clear that if I am unable to join on the specified date in the offer letter, they will proceed to find another candidate. I seek your assistance and guidance on how to navigate this challenging situation.

Please try to meet the HR in the bank from where you got the offer and explain the situation to him. For a senior and responsible role, the hiring manager will not be too concerned about the joining period.

My suggestion would be to speak to the new HR, explain the situation, tell them about your aspirations, and emphasize that the role offered to you is a dream role. More than them, it is you who would like to join the bank at the earliest. Your current employer is not being unreasonable; as per the company's policy, they expect you to serve the notice period, which is fair. I just have a quick question: what is the duration of the notice period in your current organization? From the query mentioned above, I am assuming that it is more than 30 days.

Explain the situation to the new HR team, stating that you had even mentioned your notice period clause during your interview. Since your current bank cannot relieve you from your duties, you cannot go against it. Failing to comply can hamper your relieving and full and final settlement, leaving a negative impact on your career.

Please note: Joining after 15 days will not make a bigger impact in your new organization. You can take charge after duly completing all formalities.

Talk to the new HR and work it out. Any reasonable company would understand this and not get too stuck up on a particular joining date. If they do, then you might even want to review your decision of putting your career with them.

I think communication can solve many big problems, and we should take advantage of the opportunity to practice our communication skills, no matter if we may or may not achieve success. So, I believe that you could go and try to convince the future company's HR manager along with the appointment letter. Show the clause mentioning the serving notice period and tell him/her, "Sir/Madam, I am abiding by the rules of the company I am leaving very soon. It proves that I will also adhere to the rules followed in your company. As an HR manager, you can understand that violating rules is not good. Best of luck!
