Dear Smidas, Welcome to CiteHR. First, we need to determine which Act is applicable to your establishment regarding working hours and other conditions of work, such as the Bombay Shops Act, Minimum Wages Act of 1948, and Factories Act of 1948, among others. Then, we can refer to the specific applicable Act for your query. In general, the standard is 48 hours per week without overtime.

This is regarding rest intervals. Provisions relating to working hours (daily & weekly), spread over, rest intervals, etc., should be referenced in the applicable Act.

Your client's establishment is covered by the Bombay Shops and Establishments Act, 1948. In terms of the said Act, the daily working hours shall not exceed 9 hours with a rest interval of at least one hour, subject to a maximum of 48 hours in a week. The spread over shall not exceed 11 hours on any day.

Instead of asking questions back and forth, why don't you go through the trouble of downloading relevant acts applicable to Mumbai from the internet, go through them, study them yourself, and understand the same. You will get answers to all your queries instead of seeking clarifications for every answer fellow professionals are providing. You can acquire and retain a better awareness and knowledge of various rules and acts if you search for answers yourself.
