Greetings,
Boredom hits right when we are most unprepared to deal with it. Behavioralists suggest these are creative pauses that pushes you to think beyond the current living standards. In spiritualism, boredom is defined as the time when you no longer want to be patient with yourself.
J Krishnamurthy asks us to be bored and not escape it when it hits us. However, at work when you are chasing targets and deadline, and god forbid if you are hit by boredom, what do you do?
How does the bosses around yo, tackle boredom of their employees? Boredom may necessarily not mean a burn-out. Hence may not call for a complete job description change. It may require an understanding of the self. How do you implement it in the busy work life?
Patience and Grace , remaining thankful to each and everything that I have, remains my way out
Here's the blog on Krishnamurthy's words on boredom Boredom <link updated to site home>

Nice posting. (Cite Contribution). let me thankful to you for that. Boredom now a days in private company leads to closing of job.
when you yawn with out work, the management thinks you are surplus and through you out.
In government, it is rampant. many such boredom leads to gossiping, back biting, taking leave scrupulously.

Thanks Trisha !
I completely agree with you on that ! I have faced managing boredom as one of the greatest challenge while leading a team. This is a must part of our life . Alchemy change and remain non-correlated with work volume. What are the best possible methods for a leader to manage this scenario? Changing the work or even the volume can lead to burnout, as the employee will push harder , rather than resolving it from the root.
I look forward to find out from the leaders, managers and professionals here. Thanks to everyone for supporting this finding.

Dear Ms. (Cite Contribution)

First of all let me convey my sincere appreciations for initiating the new and useful thread.

When I feel bore, I used to take some training programme for my subordinates about how to handle the crisis, what are the procedures we are following and what is the actual way we have to follow, why such deviation will be my topic for training and everytime I used to change the subject but training programme will be for 2 to 3 hours only and even my subordinates will get more energy and they get good learnings from the debate.

Further I used to brainstorm to go in depth and make others also to think in which manner we can do the innovation in our work. When I joined in construction industry, every fortnight our people used to write the paysheet by hand. If they write by hand, then correction will not be possible and if we correct also it will look awkward, and it will become an audit objection. Then we started making the paysheet in excel format. Then further we have made the attendance sheet and OT details also started fed in system. With countif formula fpr attendance we made the Paysheet Summation formula for OT we brought forward the details to Paysheet by simply linking the page then we made the Billing also successful. Further to its development we made one more sheet for bank credit which will take the name and amount which is required for the bank with their bank SB Account further advanced the bank remittance to our workmen payment. These are created only due to boredom of my feeling in preparation of manual paysheet and disbursement of wages to workers.

Further we need not to make separate list for preparing the PF remittance details as we have given separate link page for PF Also. Hence we get innovative ideas for simplifying our tasks due to brainstorming and taking up new assignments. With this we can prepare the paysheet for more than 3000 workmen within 1 day and their PF Remittance sheet also on same day.

If we have positive approach and cool thinking then surely we can enhance our values and improve our work culture.

In response to your wonderful thread, there are specific GENUINE FACTRS associated with EMPLOYEE'S BOREDOM @ WORKPLACE. In addition to the poll options, there are few more points to consider

1) PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT & CULTURE @ WORKPLACE

2) TEAM MEMBERS OR SUPERIORS AND THEIR ASSOCIATE ATTITUDE AS WE MAY BE WORKING WITH THEM HAND-IN-HAND

3) A PRACTICAL STRATEGIC SYSTEM IN PLACE FOR WHICH WE EMPLOYEES ARE OFFERING OUR SERVICES

4) EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION STRATEGIES - HOW EFFECTIVE THEY ARE AND TO WHAT EXTENT THEY ARE IMPLEMENTED?

5) EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES IN PLACE

6) ARE WE PRACTICAL IN OUR ALL OUR ACTIVITIES WE ARE CARRYING OUT?

7) ARE WE VISIONARY EMPLOYEES WORKING TOWARDS ORGANISATION'S ETHICAL GOALS WHILE ALIGNING OUR GOALS WITH THEM?

8) DID THE MANAGEMENT RECOGNIZED THE POTENTIAL IN XZY EMPLOYEES AND ASSIGNED THEM RELEVANT ROLE/ASSIGNMENT?

ARE EMPLOYEES PAID WELL?

9) HOW FOCUSED IS THE EMPLOYEE AND IS IT A GENUINE BOREDOM AFFECTING HIS CAREER AND FUTURE?

There can be more factors....

At times, even i had felt bored due to various reasons where i had conflict with my superior as well. It is the employee itself need to find out a solution to his situation rather expecting someone else to come up with a solution. This can only happen if the employee is ASSERTIVE and COMMUNICATE'S his problem with CLARITY, IN-TIME else it can lead to STRESS.

Well, this was my PRACTICAL opinion/views. Kindly do correct me if i am wrong. Hope to learn from you and others members.

With profound regards

The war between being and nothingness is the underlying illness of the twentieth century. Boredom slays more of existence than war.

Dear (Cite Contribution),
Thank you for the post. I know of a situation where a person did not have much to do once he was promoted. Any amount of goading the boss did not result in any extra work. To sit and "twiddle the thumb" was out of question. Walking around the warehouse was one option. Later, when the boss was away for a while and had to be the acting manager, the person realised that the boss himseld did not have much to do on a daily basis, except take trips to various brfanches to keephimself busy. To cut the story short, the person found a part-time course got a Masters degree and then quit the organisation.
So, another option people have is "self improvement" and quit to a different pasture.

Greetings,
Many thanks to Bhaskar, Khadir, Ram and Simhan for sharing such real-time solutions. There are no better learning than learning it from the doers!
This thread stems from a discussion with a friend who is a HR Manager and gets hit by the boredom in his team. They love their jobs with high engagement to it. Yet, when this human behavior hits, they are barely productive. My friend wanted a solution and I could only share what I did .
Calling for a Team-party was the easiest , but a luxury when the deadlines were close. Cheer and humor seemed futile as the work-pressure kept rising. My very solution was gratitude. I was blessed to find that working. Thanking everyone with a genuine appreciation, would spread a 'Thankyou-fever' , eventually weeding the boredom out.
I will share this thread with him. Trust this will work for him. Thankyou once again !

Dear (Cite Contribution),
After realising that I had not read your post properly (I gave what a person did when bored due to lack of work, let alone a challenging one), I searched the web and found some articles and a ppt presentation at Google
