I agree that the company policies are very important. But remember one thing that policies are made in order to bring professionalism, decency and also to make employees work out of there desire( if so ).
But as you have mentioned that the employees who are coming late are performing good. And so the company is making profits. When someone is doing really well then they should be given certain exception, i would say like open secret. Telling them too oftenly that you guys are coming late, will irate them and make them leave the company, as they are already a good performer.
It is good to keep everything in limits but limits also have some limits. And policies too.

If their job is not dependent on the hours that they are in the office, then remove the requirement that they be there at a certain time and find other ways to motivate them. Like focusing on their end results. If they were in roles that need to be in at a certain time then you'll need to follow through (but only once) with what your warning letter says you will do. Otherwise, you'll loose respect. Good luck!

Try to understand the fact that an HR person is only for support functions.it is the sales guys who are bringing income to the company.so act accordingly.it doesn't meant that they can come late.but instead of deduction and all first of all interact with them ask them why it is happening.bcoz the sales guys are the most important person and not you.

Hello Neemkala,

Many have put forth their views on your problem--as also the possible solution too.

As long as the results are being shown, it [late-coming, i.e.] shouldn't matter. But at the same time, this flexibility shouldn't be taken for granted--which may actually happen if you don't sit down with the full team & discuss & try to understand the possible reasons--be prepared for some real pleasant surprises too during the chat.

In a way, it could also be a learning process for you as a HR professional--after all we all learn through-out our lives--don't we? Every story has ALWAYS has the other side--get to know their part of the story & then, if necessary, formalise this aspect of latecoming with other ground-rules which could be different from those for the rest of the Company. And when the new rules are in place, tell them to follow them--usually anyone who is part of the solution will hesitate to bypass it. After all, it's man who makes the rules--not the other way round. So the rules need to be to streamline the function than hinder.

Rgds,

TS

Hi,
As far as sales teams are achieving their targets and the buyers don't come to company's doorstep, I feel, even if they never come to office, there shouldn't be any problem.
Just look at from this point of view. Whenever they come to office, they will share the office space (the expensive commercial real estate), furniture, AC, stationery, a couple of personal calls from office telephone.
If they will not come to office at all and giving business to the company, it is always a saving to the company. Isn't it...??

Hi Dear
You guys are absolute right, if we will not take action against late comers so other will follow them and you will not have any answer for them. In our company if you will not take action against late comer, on the very next day other employees are intentionally coming late.
