I am surprised to see such a reaction from an HR person(supposedly) in the start of the discussion. The forum is created to discuss and help out members on issues. Please refrain from using such harsh and un needed answer if you do not know the Laws and practices in the country.

Hi Samita. I wanted to know the name of the bank in which your sister was employed. One of my relative is also in the similar situation. Can you please reply me on my email id i.e. himanshu.t0@gmail.com.
Thanks & Regards,
Himanshu

I agree with that bank HR should have asked her at the time of joining. Because being an HR I know these are the frequently asked questions in interview if the female candidate is unmarried then what are her plans for getting married and if she is married then what is her plan for having baby.... So we cant say she lied or was having any intension of deceiving the organisation. Cause boss its job for which we get salary no one would deny to take it.
HR cannot probe into personal matters like this are you planning a baby etc.
A lady employee may join and get married etc., that is part of life.
If the person has worked for the minimum qualifying service, then she is entitled for Maternity Benefits.
