Hi,
I am a student of MBA (HR) from Kolkata. I am a final year student and depend greatly on online resources. I would like to know more about employee discipline - its meaning, types, misconduct, disciplinary action, inquiries, and grievance handling. If anyone has articles on the above-mentioned topics, please suggest.
Thank you.

Hi,
In company policy, the company mentions a schedule specifying which activities committed by an employee will be treated as misconduct. Some companies also specify which actions will amount to serious misconduct, such as damaging the company's image, misbehaving with female staff, theft, etc.
Furthermore, the policy also specifies the actions to be taken upon the occurrence of certain misconduct, such as issuing a warning letter, conducting a domestic inquiry, termination, etc. The punishment for each misconduct is also clearly outlined.
In all cases, a show-cause notice is issued to allow the employee to explain, specifying a deadline by which a response must be provided. If the employee's response is unsatisfactory, appropriate action may be taken. For minor misconduct, action can be taken immediately, while for major offenses, a disciplinary inquiry is conducted (this, again, depends on the company's policy).
To learn more about disciplinary proceedings, there are good books available. You can also search online for more information.
