Dear all,

A new survey report on job security has been published in today's Indian Express. It is attached to this post.

Job security is a foundation upon which the employees' motivation rests. If the employees are doubtful of the foundation itself, or a fear of job loss lurks at the back of the minds of the employees, then it could be giving them stress.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought to the fore the issue of the mental health of employees. The HR professionals take steps to improve the mental step. In that case, the first step would be to improve the sense of job security in the minds of the employees.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Given some of the posts we read here on CiteHR every day, why would we be surprised people that worry about their job security.

But not all of the blame can be attributed to poor management practices and bad bosses. The world is in a state of flux at the moment with inflation, Ukraine war, global supply chain problems, etc, etc, and we are not adapting fast enough to cope with this new order.

Dear Mr. Dinesh

Yes the role of HR Team is very much crucial at this juncture. But to inculcate such job security confidence among employees first of all they should be confidant of their employment first. In India as for as private sector is concerned especially the mid level companies HR is often seen as a non-revenue-generating part of the business, or simply overhead. Whether most of us agree or not this is the bitter truth. In such a scenario when there is a sluggishness in the business when an Employer plan for overall workforce reduction they start the process with HR. When hiring process is kept on hold the HR Executive who handle recruitment is targeted first followed by other operation team members. The excess availability of manpower resource in the market add strength to their decision. Even if the HR Head raise concern Management will preach about the importance of multitasking.

To conclude HR should feel confidant of their employment first before they preach job security among others.

Yes Job Security as well as GenZ expectations is leading to all the mess up, i believe, i may be wrong, however with little experience that i have ai have seen that, either a young boos in an old company, or a young employee in a large old company with senior leaders have the same response, immediate benefits! this is leading to a lot of uncertainty both ways. The impact of IOT of things has messed up the minds of almost everyone, the time to process and utilize information remains the same. IOT has reduced the time of response, and made minds less informative as most of the information desired i readily available and does not need any hard work or brain racking. This has psychologically impacted many of the youth of today, information is immediate, services are immediate, hence they want immediate results and growth. Please do decipher the meaning of this hurriedly written response.!
