I made a huge mistake. I was not interested in working and was not going to the office, so the company marked me as absconding. Then they sent the FnF certificate to me. Now, I am asking them for my relieving letter. They are telling me that, as per company policy, they will not provide a relieving letter. I have received an offer letter from another company and have only 5 days to join. They are asking for a relieving letter. I really don’t know what to do. I feel so tense and worried that I might lose my offer letter. Please reply.

Relieving letter or orders

A relieving letter or order is a document indicating the formal exit from the position or job of an employee following a mutually agreed or automatic termination of their contract of employment.

Abscondence

Abscondence, on the contrary, is a unilateral act of virtually uninformed absence by the employee, constituting a breach of the terms of the contract of employment.

Therefore, there is no need to issue a relieving letter following the termination of services on the grounds of abscondence. The very order of termination serves as proof of the absconder's service under the employer.

It is up to any prospective employer to decide the suitability of such a candidate with the available documents from that particular previous tenure, such as orders of termination, statement of F&F, etc.
