I quit a job because I was diagnosed with depression, ADHD, and suicidal tendencies. I was told I could leave on medical grounds by my boss. Now, 8 months later, I have received a legal notice to pay them 9k. Does the law not take into consideration if a person is mentally incapable of continuing work and can harm themselves?

Dear member, your separation from the company was on medical grounds. Nevertheless, the following questions arise:
a) What terms and conditions of separation were mentioned in the appointment letter?
b) When you resigned from the company, did you attach a medical certificate from a certified doctor stating that you were unfit to execute your duties?
c) While resigning from the company, did you clearly ask for a waiver of the notice period?
d) In response to your request for the waiver of the notice period, did you receive a response from the company officials stating that the notice period had been waived?
Unless we receive replies to these questions, it will be difficult to comment on your case.
Thanks,

I was told my resignation would be accepted on medical grounds; they did not ask for anything else. Once I left, I received an email asking for payment of $9,041 in February. I replied, stating that my boss had accepted my resignation on medical grounds—it's on record that I am consulting a psychiatrist and at home, not working anywhere. They never replied for 8 months and now have sent a legal notice asking for payment.

Mental Health and Employment: Legal Protections
How can a person who is suicidal and depressed be asked to continue working? They did not happily accept my resignation on medical grounds and then harass me for payment. Are there no laws in this country protecting mentally ill people? Or do we still think of it in terms of a stigma?
