The HR department requires a canceled cheque. However, I currently possess a very old cheque book that I obtained in 2008. Can I use a cheque from this book as a canceled cheque? Would it still be considered valid? Even though it was issued in 2008, my account number, name, and branch name remain the same.

Why does the PF department ask for a cancelled cheque leaf? It is because they want to confirm the name, Account No., and IFSC. Even if it is not cancelled, they will accept it. They ask for a cancelled one because a cancelled cheque cannot be used by anybody. Alternatively, you can send the bank passbook front page where these details are available. The old cheque leaf may not contain the required information like IFSC; hence, that cannot be used.
