I am currently working in a mid-level company where the current scenario is that the company is experiencing losses. As a result, this year, the company did not give the annual increment to the employees.

Due to this, many employees have resigned from their positions. To maintain the balance of employees in each department, my director is shuffling the entire department (i.e., transferring a person from the ABC department to the XYZ department). Let me specify that this is not a promotion for any employee; he is doing this to ensure the business is not affected and to avoid further losses.

The problem here is that the employees are very stressed and unable to handle this situation, which is causing work delays in each department. After these transfers, the number of resignations has increased. I kindly request your suggestions on how to cope with this situation as it is becoming very stressful.

When companies start making losses, management leaves no stone unturned to reduce costs. In your case, personnel are transferred from one department to another to utilize or optimize the available manpower. Nevertheless, what matters is maintaining the productivity of the department or the organization itself. Productivity can only be maintained if the right persons are given the right job. Skill level and expertise matter greatly in handling specific jobs. If, in the course of these transfers, productivity decreases, it could defeat the very purpose of these transfers.

Thanks,

It is important to inform employees or take them into confidence before transferring them. The reasons for 'reorganizing manpower' have to be communicated during such a meeting. I hope you have done this before issuing the transfer letter.
