Rising Customer Expectations in Hospitals

The customer expectations and facility requirements in a hospital have tremendously increased. Being compared to hotels or airlines, customers need superior healthcare facilities yet at a very low cost. More than just seeking a cure in terms of health, customers look for psychological comfort and satisfaction. They walk in with a need to alleviate their emotional distress with empathy and attention.

Importance of Training and Development

The need for high-quality training and development has therefore become essential in hospitals. Both technical and behavioral training are crucial and must be continuous programs for the staff. For example, the staff needs to be trained to be warm and hospitable. Leadership training is essential for attendants as they need to take initiative for any needs that arise.

Skill Gap Challenges

Although this is the case, there remains a serious skill gap between nurses and doctors, especially in India. When doctors and nurses need to work hand in hand as a team for a successful operation, there still exists a disconnect in terms of communication, technical skills, and even knowledge. Nurses or even the front office staff need to be very well trained in proper communication, hospitality, and empathetic understanding.
