Rehire Salary Consideration and Performance Appraisal: Insights and Recommendations - CiteHR

If an employee rejoins an organization within 180 calendar days after resignation, it is said most of the time the salary will remain the same as on the termination date. If so, is the employee eligible for an annual review or appraisal? Does any organization give a hike of 3-5% for a rehire and hold the appraisal for the next calendar year?

When an employee resigns from any organization, there is no longer a relationship with that organization. If they join another organization, the pay and allowances are determined by the new organization, and it is not mandatory to consider the previous employment pay. However, every industry aims to set a salary and perks higher than those previously received, with the sincere hope of seeing better improvement and impact in the newly joined company based on experience, commitment, trust, etc. It is a prudent consideration that cannot be simply based on the salary of the previous organization.

It is also a fact that there is no specific criterion of 180 days because the employee has to be selected through an appropriate recruitment method.

Clarification on Rejoining and Salary Queries

First, please tell us why you are asking this question. Are you rejoining a company? Are you the HR where someone is rejoining? Did the company ask for a rejoin, or did the employee fail in another job and is wanting to rejoin? Incomplete questions and those without proper background will rarely give you an accurate answer.

Reappointment Considerations for Resigned Employees

Once an employee has resigned and been relieved, reappointment by the same employer can be considered on its merits. The employer may hire them at a lower salary and may regret doing so. Generally, once an employee has been relieved, they are not typically considered for rejoining the same company. If the candidate changes their mind and wishes to rejoin the company, the employer can dictate terms and even offer a lower salary. Ultimately, it all depends on the luck of the candidate.
