24th April 2014 is Election Day in Mumbai. Under the Bombay Shop & Establishment Act, does it need to be treated like a compulsory paid holiday (similar to Independence Day/Republic Day)? Or does the organization have the option of giving a half-day/allowing late coming?

I am surprised at your query. Even a layman who watches TV or reads the newspaper is aware of it. Are you an HR professional or an employee working in another department? In both cases, if you are an eligible voter, you should make yourself aware of the government notifications. As already advised, please go through the government notifications on this, which must be complied with. I hope you will not have any more doubts and will treat the matter seriously without suggesting such alternatives as half-day/late-coming, etc.

Regards.
