Hi, I need to know whether a married female can take ESIC cover for her mother staying with her. She has no brother, and her father died long ago. She has to take care of her mother, who is quite elderly. Is there any other way she can take mediclaim for her mother?

Regards,
Naveen

Entitlement to Medical Facilities under the ESI Act

As per Section 56 of the ESI Act, 1948, the 'family members' of the insured person are also entitled to medical facilities along with the insured person. The term 'family' has been defined under Section 2(11) of the said Act, which also includes 'dependent parents' whose income from all sources does not exceed the income limit prescribed by the Central Government.

The Central Government has set this income limit at Rs. five thousand per month (please refer to Rule 61A of the ESI (Central Rules, 1950).

In case of any doubts, the insured person can visit the appropriate Branch Office of ESIC and discuss the matter.
