I am really worried about my career. I have applied and got through one of the companies (Capgemini) in Bangalore, and I was unable to join them on the given date as I had a family mishap and was not able to inform HR. When I tried to inform HR, I saw they sent me an email revoking my offer. After that, when I spoke to HR, she said that I might be blacklisted as well.

Concern About Blacklisting

Does this mean I would not be able to join any other company? Please let me know.

Thanks

Understanding Blacklisting in Employment

The concept of blacklisting can come into play due to employee insubordination, such as absconding, unethical practices at work, misbehavior, performance issues, etc. In your case, since you are not an employee of Capgemini, I feel you need not worry about these threats. The HR may have spoken to you in such a manner to threaten you, but some HR personnel start using the concept of blacklisting as a weapon to take revenge.

I am a software consultant with a reputed firm, but recently I came to know that my candidature has been blacklisted in one of the top consulting firms when my CV was forwarded to the concerned HR through my friend. The HR declined to arrange the interview for the blacklisted reason.

Neither have I ever joined that consulting firm nor have I accepted or rejected any offer before. The HR is not willing to reveal the reason for blacklisting.

What Should I Do Next?

What am I supposed to do at this stage? I want to know the reason as well as to remove the stigma of being blacklisted by that firm. Please help.

Regards
