My Dad's basic salary was 3000 PM, with a date of joining (DOJ) on 1/11/2010. The date of his demise was 22/4/2012, at the age of 43. I am seeking information on the compensation he may receive under the PF EDLI scheme. Can someone provide me with a brief explanation?

Understanding the PF EDLI Scheme

Additionally, I would like to understand the process for claiming this money.

Thank you.

Understanding PF Contributions and Eligibility

If the basic salary is 3000, the deduction per month will be 3000 * 12% = 360 (by employee) + 360 (by employer). According to this, the employee will be eligible for the service duration he worked with the company. You need to claim this amount after 2 months from the last day.

Process for Claiming PF EDLI Benefits

The process is as follows:

1. Get Form 5 (I.F.) filled out by the nominee or legal heir of the deceased, or the guardian of the minor nominee(s) or legal heir of the deceased member.
2. Attest the form.
3. Deposit the claim form with the RPFC for settlement.

Facilitation from the employer is important as the RPFC will process the EDLI payment only when Form 5 (I.F.) has been attested or authorized by the employer. The first instruction on the form clearly states, "Through the employer under whom the deceased was last employed."

The form can be downloaded from the PF department website www.epfindia.com.
