Hi, I have joined a company and worked only for 5 days, during which I was not assigned any work. I have not taken the original offer letter and returned the signed copy to HR. Now, I have a better offer from another company. I explained this to my manager, and he says I have to serve a one-month notice period or pay back one month's basic salary to the company. HR says, "Please come and sign the offer letter."
Dilemma: Sign the Offer Letter or Ignore?
Should I sign the offer letter and serve the one-month notice period, or should I just ignore them without informing anything?
Documents Submitted on the First Day
1. Photocopies of my previous employer and education certificates.
2. PAN card photocopy.
3. Photograph.
Please suggest to me.
Regards

If you haven't signed the offer/employment letter yet, there is no need to do so, and you can leave your job anytime without offering a notice period or anything. Regarding the documents that you have submitted, you don't need to worry about it if you have submitted copies of the same.

Firstly, I would say that it is very unprofessional to leave any organization within 5 days of joining. Simultaneously, I appreciate that you have informed your management of the same instead of leaving without any information.
Now, if you haven't signed any documents (offer letter or appointment letter), you need not serve any notice period. But again, I would say, "think twice before you jump."

Hi Anil, thanks for your advice. In fact, I got 30% less than my previous company here, and the new offer is about 30% more than my previous salary. So, what is your advice? Both companies are top employers.

Hi Roopa, Thanks for your advice. In fact, I got 30% less than my previous company salary, and the new offer I mentioned in my query is giving me 30% more than my previous company salary. Both companies are the best employers. I would not have jumped to another company; it's unprofessional, as you said. But in my case, having worked only for 5 days and considering the above points, what is your suggestion on this?

As you mentioned, you joined with a 30% reduction in salary compared to your previous company and have not yet received an offer letter from the current company. Now, you have a better offer from another company with a 30% increase, so there is no need to hesitate before accepting it. However, just make sure to review the details about the profile, future growth, and all related aspects.

If you have not signed any offer letter, appointment letter, or any document indicating that you have joined the organization, you can join another one. However, ensure that this does not become a habitual practice in the future.

As we have already communicated, there is no need to overthink. You can join this second organization because you haven't accepted the offer or signed any employment-related letters.
Secondly, Roopa and other members were just trying to convey that one should not prioritize money alone but also consider good employment opportunities that offer career growth and valuable experience.
Thirdly, I would like to learn more about both companies so that you can determine which one is the best fit. It's crucial to understand that each company has its strengths and weaknesses based on factors such as industry type, work style, atmosphere, culture, market position, and other relevant aspects.
For instance, if you are in the Accounts/Finance field, you could choose between WIPRO (from the IT sector) or L&T (Infrastructure/Construction Industry). While both may be considered top choices within their respective fields, the career paths, opportunities, and salary packages may vary significantly due to the differences in industries.
I hope this information helps you make an informed decision about your career path.
Lastly, I kindly request that you refrain from pointing out faults or being harsh towards others. Instead, try to understand the intentions and roles that each person plays. Thank you.
