Hi, I just wanted to know when a company comes under statutory laws. I mean, when does the company have to register for these laws? Does this happen after a company hires a minimum number of employees, or when?

Understanding Statutory Compliance for Companies

The statutory compliances under labor laws start after you cross a minimum of 10 workmen. If it's a manufacturing unit, a factory license is required to be obtained. You also have to adhere to the minimum wages as per the scheduled employment category in which your activity falls.

If your company is located in an area notified by the Employees' State Insurance (ESI), the relevant regulations will apply. Other laws, such as the Employees' Provident Fund Act, will be applicable after the workforce strength exceeds 20.
