Hey all, I am having a jewellery showroom in Ahmedabad. There has been no HR department until now, but I want to establish one to oversee all activities. Currently, there are 30 people working in the organization.

Initiating an HR Department

Kindly suggest ideas on how to initiate this process and what functions should be included.

Key Points for Establishing an HR Department

Following points will help you:

• You need to have statutory compliances that will cover:
a) Shop & Establishment Act
b) PF, ESI compliances
c) Leave Management
and other applicable compliances.

• Company policy formation.

These need to be basic implementations. If you have multiple locations and plan to expand in the near future, you should consider hiring a dedicated HR professional. Alternatively, you can hire a part-time HR consultant.

You must set up an HR Department in your shop for the following duties:

- Payroll, recruitment, training
- Employees' welfare
- Statutory compliances and the Shop & Establishment Act
- PF, ESI compliances
- Leave management and manpower management
- Customer satisfaction
- Market survey, etc.
