Original Passport / Visas / Certificates / Marksheets ...???
Hi Friends... Please put forward how you handle this...
I have recently moved from my home city to another city in India for my job. I had to carry all my original certificates right from the class 10th marksheet certificates to professional examination certificates and my Indian passport with valid visas and entry exit stamps.
I am now constantly worried about ensuring that I don't end up losing these originals by the remotest chance. For instance, in the case of a theft at my rented place in Hyderabad where I have recently moved. Getting them all reissued can take months if not years. I am very concerned.
I am sure there are many people here working in different cities who also must have been carrying originals. Can you please share your best practices, methodology, or approach in this regard?
This is a very serious issue, and I look forward to really good suggestions.
Thanks, Guys

Hi Sunanado Open a locker in any of the banks present in your city and keep all your credentials there. it may take some time but this is the safest place to keep your documents! Thanks Samiksha

Thanks, Samiksha. Yup, that's one of the good suggestions. I have never tried using a bank locker. Does anyone have any personal experiences they would like to share? Additionally, are there any other better options just in case?

You can always make a notarized copy of all the educational certificates for passport and visas if you have a near relative in the same city whom you can trust. This suggestion is against the bank locker option.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have heard about notarizing, but why do you suggest getting a notarized copy? Is that more helpful than simple plain copies? Also, why have you mentioned notarizing only educational certificates and not passport visas as well? Is there any particular reason for this? Thanks again.

Notarized copies are as good as original copies. I know it's very difficult to get duplicate educational certificates from our education department. It's our Indian system (sighs). Getting a passport and visa in duplicate is easier. You only have to have your visa number and passport number.
Hope this helps you.
