Hi Seniors,
I'm in big dillema, thought i should take advice from seniors.I'm currently working in a start-up S/w co which has around 8-9 employees, although my designation is HR Geheralist but i handle, admin , accounting and lilttle legal activities also. Now yesterday I was offered a post of HR Generalist in one of India's biggest retail store. The only clinche with them is that they want me to join immediately..as they have to relieve the HR person who is currently working with them. They asked me if i can take 5 days off from present Co. work with them and then come back and serve notice period of 15 days.
I really m very confused, if i leave the present organisation, my boss will never give me experienece letter..coz he is a person who takes gurdge against each and every person who wants to leave his organisation, if i dont leave, i will be loosing the opportunity of working with good & big brand name.
Could the seniors please advice something.
Regards,
KT

dear kalpana,
It is a very typical situation, as such most of the people must have passed on from such kind of situation.
Change is inevitable, that everybody knows. But it is always good if you leave the organisation in good harmony. I know it is very difficult, because once you have put up yours papers, you are an unimportant person for them.
But this is the only way.
You can always share your problem with company in which you are going to join, exeptions are always there. As we also permit to join the employees having such problem in some of the exeption cases.

Dear Kalpana,
I am also agree with Rajeev.Take the new opportunity, and without any delay put ur resignation letter to ur current organization.Don't think that ur boss is not giving u a Experience letter. He'll just tell u that put ur salary, and may be arguing.U just tell to ur boss that u r going to there for career aspects. So,don't think too much.Just do it.
All The Best.

HI Kalpana!THis situation takes place where there is not proper system/management.Otherwise Right to change is everywhere. You just make cleaer with tht Retail organization that I "might not issued a work exp.letter" and that should not be a problem in verification of employment and at the time of submission of documents with Retail org.'s offer.

talk to the HR Person from that retail company, im sure he should be able to understand ur position and "not expect an exp letter or a good ref check"...go ahead and tell him clearly what the scene is...he cant be so dumb not to understand..+ its a good opportunity, grab it anyhow!!

Agree with Bhardwaj,
Made clear your brand name that you won't get exp. letter or clearance certificate from current employer if leave that company immediately, it is also possible that yr current employer may hold your current month's salary.
you have to decide what to do

Hi Kalpana,
One thing I understood from your situation is that instead of leving the org with out a Service Certificate its better if u can take leave for 5 days if available with you to serve them for the requested period in the new organiation and then come back to serve the notce period to get your service cerificate.
If not availble I think u can convince the new organisation to to drag the period or say them your situation of the service certificate that cant be issued. I think they will defnitely consider your request as the same situation arised to me.
I'd like to suggest you one thing that dont be after the job as that is the only one anbd if u r in such they will defnitely put u in more pain to come imediately. Dont be scared and u can explain ur situation which is the best way to get ur problem solved.
All the best !!!!

Hi Kalpana,

Just a question – how long you have been you have been working in this organization ?...I assume less than a year or so then don’t make a change..one should look at things in perspective..say 15 years how would your profile look like!

Secondly the current practice of joining the new company during leave from the present organization even during the notice period tantamounts to double employment which is not ethical practice.

Start up companies like yours gives one a great exposure and one’s learning curve goes up by a few notches while compared to the company with a structured systems. Have friends working in reputed IT companies bemoan the fact that they are not really much learning as most of the things are centralized and H.O. centric..

Just be patient and considering your current exposure am sure even better offers would roll by..

Best wishes,

Rajat Joshi
