Dear friend,
I would suggest you two ways -the first one is Legal which may cost you but it the way by which your company will come to know that this can happen with them.
If a case stand i court there is no escape way to your company as you have all the evidence.
Another way is - you can try to meet the Manager of the concern company or management people & tell them if you don't get your documents back you will take this issue to media. I suggest you should not give them more than 2 days to return back your documents. As why to give them more days ? And as you know media is the most powerful way to show place to such types of people or company.

Hope you have recorded the meeting/call and have evidence..
The original certificates are your property and employer can not have any lien on it and can not keep it as collateral.
It is illegal,offence and you can lodge police complaint.
