Hi friends, I recently attended an interview at Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt Ltd company, where they asked me a question about the difference between employee relations and personnel management, which I didn't know. Can anyone tell me the difference?

Personnel Management Activities

Personnel management involves three distinct activities: employee resourcing, employee development, and employee relations.

Understanding Employee Relations

Employee Relations involves the body of work concerned with maintaining employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation, and morale. Essentially, Employee Relations is concerned with preventing and resolving problems involving individuals which arise out of or affect work situations.

So, Employee Relations is a part of Personnel Management. Hope this clarifies.

As somebody added the view regarding this:

Human Resources Management Overview

Human Resources Management involves:

- Manpower Planning
- Recruitment
- Selection
- Placement
- Orientation
- Compensation and Benefits Management
- Performance Management
- Training and Development
- Handling the Employees' Grievances
- Employee Relations Management
- Collective Bargaining and Resolving Disputes

So, Employee Relations is a part of Human Resources or Personnel Management from recruitment to the retirement of a person.

I have answered as per my knowledge; if anything is wrong, correct me, seniors.

Regards,
Suresh
