Dear Pushpa,
I will be having a restart of my career in Labour laws as I have completed my postgraduation in commerce long back in 1993. I was in search of material for Labour Laws, as I will be interested in giving my NET/SET after attempting for a master's degree in law. Your study material will help me to gain confidence in memorizing things, and thereafter too. I never thought of such guidance in my whole life. If you do have any extra information for study material or if you can guide me regarding studying labor law in an easy way, please do help me.
Good job, Pushpa. Hope to hear from you.

Dear Bhanu,
Regarding this, I have taken suggestions from a few people who have written UGC. They have suggested opting for code 17 instead of code 55. In code 17, there are management subjects, while for code 55, individuals with a background in MHRM can opt for this. Can you please advise?

Hi Kavitha,
As Bhanu said, Code-55 should be opted by MBA HR individuals for familiar subjects when compared to Code 17. This is because Code 17 appears to have a vast syllabus and is a bit more challenging in comparison. There is no rule that only MHRM individuals should choose Code 55.

The syllabus will be from your MBA curriculum only. It may be possible that your institute's curriculum will be different.
Regarding your question about opting for code 17 or code 55, it's your decision on how you want to see yourself 3-5 years from now. To be a lecturer in HR, you should opt for Code 55. Code 17 will be more valuable if you are an expert in one or more specializations because there are lecturers who handle two elective papers.
It will not be so difficult to clear because in the UGC Net Exam, you need to concentrate on paper 2 and paper 3, i.e., on your elective subject.
According to me, the right time to go for this exam is during your 2nd year of MBA. It will be relatively easy to clear.
Hope I have answered your query.

Hi all,
I have completed my MBA with a major in HR and I am planning to take the NET exams this December. I am seeking clarity on the subject code. I am interested in selecting Code 55, which focuses on Labour related subjects and HR. Can I opt for this subject code, or is it necessary to choose Subject code 17, which pertains to general Management? I would appreciate any insights you can provide.

Dear All,
The NET exam is designed to judge the degree of knowledge a person has in his/her domain. I cleared NET under code 55 in 2000. Based on my experience, my suggestion will be:
1. Prepare for Paper I extremely well. This is a qualifying exam. You may refer to the Upkar Publication Guide for Paper I.
2. For Paper II, you need an understanding of minute details. To give you an example, a question I encountered when I cleared the exam was, "On whose recommendation was the TU Act, 1926 passed?" Answering such questions requires detailed study.
3. For Paper II, choose a good book on HRM and IR. Follow the syllabus systematically.
Make sure to have a copy of the syllabus and a few books that you studied for your masters.
All the best to all aspiring for NET.

@All,
Thanks a lot. This is a very helpful thread. I was in the same dilemma whether to opt for subject no. 55 or subject no. 17 because I am a postgraduate in business administration with H.R. as specialization. I am not good at financial management, and so I was a bit reluctant to opt for 17. Now, I am reassured to opt for 55. Thanks again for guiding. I am looking for good study material to be helpful in the preparation.

Tips for How to write answers in UGC/CSIR NET JRF Examination?
Here are some of the tips and techniques to score well in UGC NET examination.
Follow them at the best. Good Luck. (According to some Experts)
1. Writing skills matter a lot in the NET Examination. Most of the candidates appearing for the NET examination have a lot of knowledge, but lack writing skills. You should be able to present all the information/knowledge in a coherent and logical manner, as expected by the examiner. For example: Quoting with facts and substantiating your answer with related concepts and emphasizing your point of view.
2. Preparations for NET examination should be done intensively.
3. Prepare a standard answer to the question papers of the previous years. This will also make your task easy at the UGC examination.
4. Do Not miss the concepts. Questions asked are of the Masters level examination. Sometimes the questions are ‘conceptual’ in nature, aimed at testing the comprehension levels of the basic concepts.
5. Get a list of standard textbooks from the successful candidates, or other sources and also selective good notes. The right choice of reading material is important and crucial. You should not read all types of books as told by others
6. While studying for the subjects, keep in mind that there is no scope for selective studies in UGC. The whole syllabus must be covered thoroughly. Equal stress and weight should be given all the sections of the syllabus.
7. Note that in the ultimate analysis both subjects carry exactly the same amount of maximum marks.
8. Go through the unsolved papers of the previous papers and solve them to stimulate the atmosphere of the examination.
9. Stick to the time frame. Speed is the very essence of this examination. Hence, time management assumes crucial importance.
10. For developing the writing skills, keep writing model answers while preparing for the NET examination. This helps get into the habit of writing under time pressure in the Mains examination.
11. Try not to exceed the word limit, as far as possible. Sticking to the word limit that will save time. Besides, the numbers of marks you achieve are not going to increase even if you exceed the word limit. It’s the quality that matters not the quantity.
12. Highlight the important points which are important.
13. Follow paragraph writing rather than essay form. A new point should start with a new paragraph.
14. If the question needs answer in point format give it a bullet format.
15. Keep sufficient space between two lines.
16. Give space and divide it by a dividing line between two questions.
17. Above all be patient and believe in you and God.

Hi!,
You have to study all the 10 units and your elective paper. You should not leave out anything. Only you should concentrate on definition, process, types, and methods in whichever topic you study because questions from all the 10 units will be direct ones.
Revise the last 5 years' question paper after studying each and every unit so that you will feel confident and clear about the subject. All the topics in the syllabus are very much available in the HR textbooks. You need to concentrate more on the elective, where you can expect indirect and illustrative questions. For that, you have to read more and more articles related to the topic.
Hope you will find it informative. All the best.

Hi Sharma!
During your MBA in International Business, how many HR papers did you study and what are those? After knowing that, I can advise you. If you didn't take any HR elective papers related to Code 55, you may find it a bit difficult to study.
Code 17 will be more general, but the elective will be your choice. You can select a topic in which you are strong. So, you can decide accordingly.

Hello Kavitha,
Since you have completed your MBA in HR, you should consider opting for code 55. The syllabus for code 55 is the same as the syllabus for MBA HR. However, if you choose code 17, it might be a bit challenging for you as it includes subjects like marketing, finance, etc.
Good luck,

Dear All,
I am a UGC NET - HR/Labour Welfare/Code 55 aspirant, and I would like to share my experience on my preparation journey and Material Hunt. As we all know very well about the UGC syllabus, it is at a very high level and it's like an ocean once we dive in. We often miss where to start and stop on each topic. So, like everyone else, I also started gathering complete material after an in-depth search through seniors groups, friends, and online. I finally felt confident after going through the "HR Preparation" YouTube videos and their useful materials.
The good part of the videos is they are very clear on the subject, and we definitely get the feeling as if we are in a real-time class. You can try to watch the free videos and experience the same.
1. Comprehensive Study Materials with important notes
2. Practice Set with 2000 MCQs
3. Unlimited Video Classes
4. Previously Solved Question Papers
I also came to know that "www.hrpreparation.com" offers coaching for PSU sector HR jobs at a very affordable price for everyone.
Good Luck, friends.
